As we have pointed out earlier, handicaps have been introduced in order to solve the problem of strong favourites with a low odd, and to enable the return of the stake in case of a tie. When betting on Asian handicaps, you only have two picks to choose from: 1 or 2; no tie. Handicaps equalise the odds for the two teams, and thus you can gamble at higher odds. You only return the picks on Asian handicaps as single bets (‘singles’).

Asian handicaps — basic features:

  • your choice is pick 1 or 2 only;
  • in case the final result, handicap included, is a tie, the bookmaker will return you the stake;
  • the odds for both teams are equal (approx. EUR 2.00 each)
  • the bookmaker’s margin is lower than in a typical 1 X 2 betting; e.g. the handicap 0:1/2 is the same as X2 pick but its odd is often higher due to a different calculation;
  • you can win even if the team you have placed your bet on is defeated in the match.

Handicapy azjatyckie używane przez bukmacherów

Handicap 0:0

If there is no favourite in the match, the handicap is 0:0–as if there were none, since both teams are treated on a par with each other. In the event that the match ends up in a tie, the stake is returned. You lose if you have erroneously bet on the winner.

Handicap 0:1 (-1 or +1)

Marked at the bookmaker’s as:
1 (favourite)
+ (underdog)

Such a handicap means -1 goal scored for the favourite or +1 goal scored for the underdog (the weaker team, in the bookmaker’s view).

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Everton+11.85
teamhandicapodd
Liverpool-11.85

Liverpool is the favourite in this case; hence, in order to increase its victory-oriented odd, the bookmaker will reduce the number of goals scored by Liverpool by one (1) at the very start.

In the above case, should you have bet on Liverpool:

  • If Liverpool wins with at least two goals, your entire bet wins.
  • If Liverpool wins with one goal, your whole stake is returned to you (tie).
  • If Liverpool draws or loses, your whole bet loses.

And, should you have bet on Everton:

  • If Everton wins or draws, your whole bet wins.
  • If Everton loses with one goal, your whole stake is returned to you.
  • If Everton loses with two or more goals, your entire bet loses.

Handicap 0:1/2 ( +0.5 or -0.5)

Marked at the bookmaker’s as:
0,5 (favourite)
+0,5 (underdog)

Handicap +0,5 stands for picking the weaker team as a prop bet, i.e. x2.

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Charlton+0,51.95
teamhandicapodd
Newcastle
United
-0,51.90

In the above case, should you have bet on Newcastle United:

  • If Newcastle United wins, your entire bet wins.
  • If Newcastle United draws or loses, your entire bet loses.

And, should you have bet on Charlton:

  • If Charlton wins or draws, your whole bet wins.
  • If Charlton loses, your whole bet loses.

Handicap 0:1/4 (0, – 0,5; 0, +0,5)

This is a double handicap, which means that a half of our stake is bet at handicap 0 and the other half, at -/+ 0.5.

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Barcelona0, +0,51.95
teamhandicapodd
Chelsea0, -0,52.075

In the above case, should you have bet on Chelsea:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap 0, the other half at -0.5.
  • Your stake wins at odd 2.075, if Chelsea wins.
  • If Chelsea draws, you are returned half of your stake, the other half loses.
  • You lose the stake if Chelsea loses the match.

And, should you have bet on Barcelona:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap 0, the other half at +0.5.
  • If Barcelona wins, your whole bet wins.
  • Half of your stake wins at odd 1.775, in case Barcelona draws
  • You lose the stake if Barcelona loses.

Handicap (-0.5, -1) or (+0.5, +1)

This handicap is a double handicap and can be represented also as: 0:3/4

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Everton+0.5, +11.90
teamhandicapodd
Liverpool-0.5, -11.90

In the above case, should you have bet on Liverpool:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap -0.5, the other half at -1.
  • If Liverpool wins with at least two goals, your entire bet wins.
  • If Liverpool wins with one goal, then half of your stake wins (since it is -0.5 only), the other half to be returned (as handicap -1 gives a tie).
  • If Liverpool draws or loses, your whole bet loses.

And, should you have bet on Everton:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap +0.5, the other half at +1.
  • If Everton wins or draws, your whole bet wins.
  • If Everton loses with one goal, then half of your stake loses (since it is +0.5 only), the other half being returned (tie comes out).
  • Everton loses with at least two goals, your whole bet loses.

Handicap (-1, -1.5) or (+1, +1.5)

It is often the case that the handicap of one goal scored is insufficient; in such a case, the underdog (the weaker team) should be given a higher advantage in score. So-called double handicap: (-1, -1.5) or (+1, + 1.5) is applied in such cases.

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Everton+1, +1.51.90
teamhandicapodd
Liverpool-1, -1.51.90

In the above case, should you have bet on Liverpool:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap -1, the other half at -1.5.
  • If Liverpool wins with at least two goals, your entire bet wins.
  • If Liverpool wins with one goal, then half of your stake is returned (there is a tie, with the handicap of -1), the other half loses.
  • If Liverpool draws or loses, your entire bet loses.

And, should you have bet on Everton:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap +1, the other half at +1.5.
  • If Everton wins or draws, your whole bet wins.
  • If Everton loses with one goal, half of your stake is returned whilst the other half wins.
  • If Everton loses with two or more goals, your whole bet loses.

Handicap -1.5 or +1.5

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Everton+1.51.90
teamhandicapodd
Liverpool-1.51.90

In the above case, should you have bet on Liverpool:

  • If Liverpool wins with two or more goals, your whole bet wins.
  • If Liverpool wins with one goal, draws or loses, your whole bet loses.

And, should you have bet on Everton:

  • If Everton wins, draws or loses with one goal, your whole bet wins.
  • If Everton loses with two or more goals, your whole bet loses.

Handicap (-1.5, -2) or (+1.5, +2)

This handicap is double as well.

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Everton+1.5, +21.90
teamhandicapodd
Liverpool-1.5, -21.90

In the above case, should you have bet on Liverpool:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap -1.5, the other half at -2.
  • If Liverpool wins with at least three goals scored, your whole bet wins.
  • If Liverpool wins with two goals, then half of your stake wins, the other half to be returned.
  • If Liverpool wins with one goal, draws or loses, your entire bet wins .

And, should you have bet on Everton:

  • Half of your stake is bet at handicap +1.5, the other half at +2.
  • If Everton wins, draws or loses with one goal, your whole bet wins.
  • If Everton loses with two goals, then half of your stake loses, the other half to be returned.
  • If Everton loses with at least three goals, your whole bet loses.

Handicap -2 or +2

Example:

teamhandicapodd
Liverpool-21.90
teamhandicapodd
Everton+21.90

In the above case, should you have bet on Liverpool:

  • If Liverpool wins with at least three goals, your whole bet wins.
  • If Liverpool wins with two goals, your stake will be returned in its entirety.
  • If Liverpool wins with one goal, draws or loses, then your whole bet loses.

And, should you have bet on Everton:

  • If Everton wins, draws or loses with one goal, then your whole bet wins.
  • If Everton loses with two goals, your stake will be returned in its entirety.
  • If Everton loses with at least three goals, your whole bet loses.
